Modern luxury experiences with historic DNA
Welcome to Hotel Villa Copenhagen – Copenhagen’s sustainable luxury hotel. It is not an establishment reserved for the select few, but rather a modern and welcoming meeting place for tourists and locals alike. The vision is to bring people together around experiences defined as The Villa Experience: a homey feeling of conscious luxury, contrasts and happiness.
From historical post office to modern luxury hotel
The hotel is housed in Copenhagen’s historic main post office from 1912.
All of the exterior walls have been preserved, while the building’s interior – formerly dedicated to postal services and administration – has been transformed into 390 rooms, eight suites, three restaurants, eight bars, a covered courtyard lobby, and a 25-meter-long pool on the hotel’s rooftop terrace.
Three architect studios were commissioned to design a fusion of the building’s historic heritage with modern architecture and design, thus creating a lively and dynamic setting for unforgettable experiences.
Universal Design Studio designed the rooms, elevators, lobbies and hallways, while Goddard Littlefair designed the restaurants, brasserie and ten conference rooms. Danish luxury brand Shamballa Jewells decorated the hotel’s courtyard and seven of the eight suites.
With their own unique approaches, values and design philosophies, these three studios have created interior and design concepts that build bridges between the hotel’s cultural DNA and its innovative vision. Throughout the hotel, guests are treated to a delightful mixture of contrasts. Take, for example, the juxtaposition of modern Scandinavian furniture and materials with historical details, such as the original stucco ceilings and wall panels.
59 different furniture suppliers
HOLMRIS B8 delivered and installed all of the hotel’s loose furniture and fixtures, which come from a total of 59 different suppliers, including Frederica Furniture, &tradition, Gubi, Hay, Menu, Pedrali, B&B, Labofa and Carl Hansen.
The hotel’s sustainable commitment is reflected in its choice of furniture made with high-quality and durable materials, and design classics from Danish and foreign brands.
Thanks to the close collaboration between Nordic Choice, the three architect studios, and HOLMRIS B8’s Hospitality team, the hotel was able to open on July 1, 2020 – in spite of coronavirus and the many unforeseen challenges that arise when renovating a 100-year-old building.
